Contest Details
Entries from outside of Minnesota will be disqualified. Previously published material may be entered; however, please include information on when and where the video was shot. Videos must be accompanied by a statement (less than 30 words) that describes how the video submitted represents the reason you choose to protect Minnesota’s environment. Videos will be judged on originality, technical excellence, composition, overall impact and artistic merit. Decisions made by the judges are final.
- Videos can be any style: fiction or documentary, animated or live action.
- Videos can be no longer than three minutes, including titles.
- Videos can be in any language, but must have English subtitles.
- Previous video-making experience is neither required nor prohibited.
WHO: The Minnesota Environmental Fund “10,000 Reasons Why” Video competition is open to ALL and will be judged in 2 categories:
Filmmakers must enter their videos in one of the following divisions.
Adult (amateur or professional) - Filmmakers at least 18 years of age.
Youth - Young filmmakers ages 13 through age 17. The following individuals are not eligible to enter the contest Minnesota Environmental Fund board members and staff.
WHEN: Deadline for submitting entries is June 21, 2009. Online entries can be uploaded starting April 22, 2009, and must be uploaded no later than 11:59 pm Central Time on June 21, 2009. Winners will be announced no later than October 1, 2009.
Prizes: Prizes will be awarded to up to three winning videos for the Adult and the Youth divisions.
Any federal, state and local taxes, fees and surcharges on prizes are the sole responsibility of the prize winners.
Filmmaker/Copyright
Entries must be submitted by the original filmmaker. Videos taken by someone other than you but submitted by you will not be considered and you may be disqualified. You must be the sole owner of the copyright of any video submitted. Your submission of each video is your guarantee that you are the author and copyright holder of such video. In addition, by entering, Contestants represent and warrant that the Entries that they submit do not infringe any other person's or entity's rights.
Ownership/Use Rights
Contestants retain the copyright to their videos, and all rights thereto, except as follows. Sponsors shall have the right to edit, adapt and publish any or all of the descriptions and/or video submitted (collectively, the "Entries"), and may use them in any media in association with the Contest without attribution or compensation to the Contestant, his or her successors or assigns, or any other entity. By entering the Contest, Contestants agree to have their submitted video used and displayed, either singly or in combination with others and in any size, on the Minnesota Environmental Fund website without any fee or other form of compensation due at any time for so long as desired by the Minnesota Environmental Fund. Videos will be credited to the Contestant named in the Entry form. Descriptions or titles, if any, used with the videos are in the Sponsors' sole discretion. In the event that ownership of any video submitted is challenged in any manner by any person, the Minnesota Environmental Fund may disqualify that video and will discontinue use of the video.
Entrants must not infringe on the rights of any other filmmaker or person or submit videos that involve the willful harassment of wildlife or damage to the environment. All video should accurately reflect the subject matter and the scene as it appeared.
Liabilities and Rights:
- The Contest Sponsors do not endorse any Video Submission or any opinion, recommendation, or advice expressed therein, and the Contest Sponsors expressly disclaim any and all liability in connection with Video Submissions.
- The Contest Sponsors do not permit copyright infringing activities and infringement of intellectual property rights and will remove all Video Submissions in violation of copyright protections if properly notified that a Submission infringes on another's intellectual property rights.
- The Contestant assumes sole responsibility for the material contained in the Video Submission and for the consequences of posting it on the Contest site.
- Neither Contest Sponsors nor any of the Contest Parties are liable for any disputes between collaborators related to a Video Submission.
- Contestants retain ownership of their videos. However, by submitting a video to the Contest, Contestants grant Contest Sponsors a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable license to use, reproduce, distribute, prepare derivative works of, display, and perform the Video Submissions in any media formats and through any media channels in connection with the Contest and in connection with the business of the Contest Sponsors.
