The Trust for Public Land

The Trust for Public Land (TPL) Minnesota Office conserves land for Minnesotans to enjoy as parks, gardens, and other natural places, ensuring livable communities for generations to come. Since 1986, TPL has helped protect over 84,000 acres of some of Minnesota's most special areas, along our lakes and rivers, valued at more than $83 million.

Programs

Parks for People- Twin Cities
TPL is committed to expanding the Twin Cities’ magnificent park system into an interconnected web of public parks, gardens, trails, lakes, rivers, and natural areas stretching from the vibrant central business districts of Minneapolis and St. Paul to inner-city neighborhoods to growing suburban and exurban areas. Priorities include:
• Exurban Fringe: An “Emerald Necklace” of interconnected regional parks and trails, lakes, and streams
• Urban Neighborhoods: More green places, gardens, and play spaces, resulting in nature close to home for every resident
• Downtowns: World-class urban parks in Minneapolis and St. Paul

The Northwoods Initiative
TPL established the Northwoods Initiative to protect the iconic landscapes of northern Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan and preserve a heritage that is at risk of disappearing. In Minnesota, TPL has protected lands along the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in the Superior National Forest, as well as lands in the Chippewa National Forest and along the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway.

Healthy Waters
TPL is leading the way in the use of land conservation to safeguard and improve water resources by protecting Minnesota's waterways, lakes, and the natural lands that drain to them and by providing recreational opportunities for Minnesotans.

Embrace Open Space
Embrace Open Space (EOS) is a collaborative effort in the Twin Cities area that involves nonprofit organizations and agency staff, as well as other partners. EOS encourages greater leadership from citizens and elected leadership to conserve and restore lakes and rivers, parks and natural areas in the high-growth 11-county Twin Cities metropolitan area.
