The North American Water Office promotes conservation and local renewable energy transition from nuclear, fossil fuel, and large hydro power plants by educating Minnesota’s citizens and decision-makers about electric racism, environmental justice, and solutions to environmental health problems caused by electric utility wastes.

NAWO's Indigenous Women's Mercury Investigation was awarded the University of Minnesota School of Public Health 's Community Partner STAR Award in 2007 for its work with mercury contamination in fish and Indigenous Peoples in Northern Minnesota.
NAWO initiated a “Substation by Substation” campaign which is taking root throughout the state, and creating opportunities for ordinary Minnesota energy consumers to take action that will protect the environment through conservation and renewable energy development, and make money for themselves and their community.
