Programs
* The Deconstruction Program took on its most ambitious project yet, the deconstruction and resale of salvaged material
from a 36,000 square foot residence. Deconstruction crews, largely staffed by hard-to-employ persons, maintained the highest
employee retention rate on record for job training– 65%. Crew Leaders partnered with the City of St. Paul in a pilot project
to determine a minimum municipally-imposed standard for reuse and recycling. The Deconstruction Program annualy diverts about
400 tons of reusable material each year from landfill.
* The ReUse Centers’ sales increased by 25% and new, discounted green building products were introduced,
including high quality energy- and water- conserving fixtures and reclaimed lumber options.
* The Community Energy Program partnered with the Community Action Partnership to provide energy audits and weatherization services to low-income households in Anoka County and launched an initiative to work directly with restaurants, convenience stores and grocery stores on energy efficiency. The Green Institute initiated a partnership with Eureka Recycling to combine energy conservation and waste reduction messaging and outreach to residents and businesses.
* Clean Energy Resource Teams (CERTs) awarded seed grants to nine citizen-based clean energy and energy efficiency projects in the metro area.
